Fabric fast check-in

Wow! 29 days and still going great! I did buy some background fabric for this quilt, but that was allowed :)

IMG_0514 Now, my only question is, am I allowed to buy if I get a gift certificate? I made a quilt top for someone who owns a store and they said I could get store credit… thoughts?

First finish of 2014!

I am happy to say that I completed my goal of finishing my Mosaic Tiles pillow. While I enjoyed making the pillow, and I love the result, by the end I was getting tired of little pieces :)

I was considering giving the pillow away but it has grown on me and I am going to keep it. I have actually been quite productive this month and am happy to say that I have made it without cheating on my fabric diet either!

Friday Favourites

I'm going to try to start posting some of my favourite things on Fridays. It may not be every Friday, but I do hope it will be regular. I may be talking about a new book, a new pattern, a fabric line, a tool, anything really. For this first one I have chosen a store.

Mad About Patchwork is a Canadian run fabric store that is here in town (well technically just a wee tiny bit out of town). When I first placed an order I didn't pay attention to where it was and when my package showed up two days later and I saw the address I laughed. Pam, the owner, is one of the founding board members of the Ottawa Modern Quilt Guild along with myself and a few others. Through our get togethers for the guild I feel I can call Pam a friend now and I consider myself lucky.

A selection of solids from Mad About Patchwork

Pam carries a lot of current modern lines like Charley Harper and Botanics, and sells them at awesome prices (not something that is easy in Canada). She also carries a huge range of Kona solids which is good, because I am always buying from her at the last minute and have never been disappointed. These pictures are some of her solids from a quilt show she had a booth at.

I do hope that maybe you will take a moment and check out Mad About Patchwork… I know you won’t be disappointed :) (and since everyone seems to always add in these caveats… no I haven’t been paid and Pam doesn’t even know I am writing this :))

Mosaic Tiles Quilt Along!

Hello! I am Katy, better known as LethargicLass, and I am excited to be a part of this quilt along.  I met Lindsay last fall at Sewing Summit, and I bought my copy of Modern Bee directly from her. Sadly, I didn't think of asking her to sign it though lol. When Lindsay asked if I would like to be a part of this blog hop quilt along I was thrilled! I immediately started thinking of what I could make. I wanted to keep the look of the quilt, but without the size. I am a very slow quilt maker, and I knew I wouldn't have the time. So I went small. Really small. IMG_0149 I drew my plan up in my trusty little graph book, and then attempted the math. Several times. IMG_0152Finally I figured out that I needed to start with 2” centers and one inch borders to create my original block before cutting into fours. IMG_0154 I like to work at different stages of things at one time so I don’t get bored by something like a huge pile of trimming. You can see what I mean below. IMG_0319 - Copy I finally finished the pillow at 20”x20”. That is when I realised that my 20” pillow form was actually 18” lolIMG_0471 It most certainly isn’t perfect, but I love it :) Here is the backside. I used one of my favourite prints from Connecting Threads and I don’t have much left. IMG_0472I hope you enjoyed seeing what I made, and I would love to know if anyone else attempts one this small :)  Please check out the rest of the Mosaic Tiles Quilt Along!

Give me Liberty, or give me death!

OK... so I don't feel *that* strongly about Liberty of London fabrics... but it is close LOL!

I just wanted to share a finish from this morning. I bought some of Very Berry Handmade's hexie packs and started there. I decided on this design just a little while ago.

Sorry for the iPod pic... but like everyone else, I find it so convenient to use nowadays. The top and bottom fabric is from a summer dress my Mom made herself and wore when I was a little girl. It is still in excellent condition, and is my only Liberty I have of substantial size. Although, as I used this for the back as well, there is not quite so much anymore.

Anyway, short post, just wanted to share :)
